(Beijing, Xi'an, Dunhuang, Turpan, Urumqi)
Day 1 Beijing-Xi'an (D) Upon
arrival in Beijing, transfer to the flight to Xi'an, which was once vied
with Rome and later Constantinople for the title of greatest city in the
world.
Day 2 Xi'an (B,L,D)
Visit the most important archeological discovery the life-size and lifelike
Terracotta Army, acclaimed as the Eighth Wonder of the World; the old
imperial bathhouse of the Huaqing Hot Springs, a used-to-be Tang-dynasty
imperial pleasure resort. Dumpling Banquet has been arranged for tonight.
Enjoy a good night of Tang Dynasty Dinner Show.
Day 3 Xi'an - Dunhuang (B,L,D)
Take a morning flight to Dunhuang, a Silk Road terminal, who played a
pivotal role in China's trade and cultural exchanges with the West in
ancient times. In the afternoon, visit Yangguan Pass; this famous pass
has been the subject of poems and ballads for centuries. Drive back to
Dunhuang and stay there overnight.
Day 4 Dunhuang -Turpan (B,L,D)
Today you will visit Mogao Grottoes, world famous for its l600-year accumulated
cultural, architectural, and art treasures. They are China's oldest monumental
Buddhist grottoes. Other natural attractions include the famous Singing
Sand Dunes; Crescent Moon Spring. After the visit, take a train (soft
sleeper) to Turpan, a city of residents with different ethnic backgrounds.
Day 5 Turpan (B,L,D)
Arrive in the city in the morning. Today's sightseeing features Gaochang,
the ancient walled capital of the Uighurs which flourished between the
7th and 14th centuries, and the ruins of Jiaohe City, where large fragments
of actual streets and buildings remain. You'll also visit Grape Valley,
in lush contrast to the desert surrounding it, and the amazing 2,000-year-old
Karez Irrigation Tunnels, which brought water from melting snow on the
mountains to this parched city.
Day 6 Turpan - Urumqi (B,L,D)
In the morning, take the coach to Urumuqi, the capital city of Xinjiang
Uighurs Autonomous Region. A full-day excursion takes you to the pasture
by the Southern Mountains. In addition to the sightseeing, you will also
have a chance to visit and chat with the local residents, experiencing
the local life.
Day 7 Urumqi (B,L,D)
After breakfast, enjoy an excursion to and a boat ride in Tianchi Lake
(Heaven Lake), nestled in the Tianshan Mountain range. Tianchi Lake is
a natural lake fed by thawing snow runoffs with snow-mantled peaks and
sky-soaring dragon-spruce around.
Day 8 Urumqi - Beijing (B)
After breakfast, take a flight to Beijing, China's capital and an ancient
city with great splendors. Then take flight back to home.
